Desert Lily Sanctuary is a small protected area about 180 miles east of Los Angeles. The preserve is renown for its wild desert lilies that bloom when the conditions are ideal (usually following the winter rains, February through April). To get there take the Desert Center exit off Interstate 10 and head north east on Highway 177 for about 7 miles. The entrance is marked with a sign, but during our last visit we noticed that the letters on the sign were worn out and near impossible to read. Once you make the turn on to the dirt road, drive another 0.2 miles to reach to the parking area for the sanctuary. The road is suitable for most automobiles. You can use the map below for directions to the parking lot.
