Just as the weather reports have predicted, we finally had a rain free morning after. Although, it was a bit cold outside, we were glad to see the sun shining over the horizon. After quick breakfast, we loaded up our bikes and got on the road. As promised, our cousin kept us company for the first 15K or so.
After a few minutes of riding, city streets merged into beautiful open country roads surrounded by farms. It felt really good to be on the road as we enjoyed the beautiful scenery. The route took us through numerous small towns and villages with narrow streets and medieval architecture. Near Darmstadt we passed through a dark forest that was really breath taking. It was around this time that the weather started to change. We could clearly see dark clouds gathering as we descended towards the Rhine River.
By late afternoon, it started sprinkling as we reached Heppenheim. Prior to the trip, I purchased a prepaid phone card with 3G service. So, I had internet on my phone while we were in Germany. That is what we relied on to find the Park Inn hotel that was near by. My brother walked in to acquire about a room as I waited outside. Their rooms were reasonably priced and we were allowed to take our bikes to our rooms. We used the elevators to take the bikes upstairs one at a time. The room was modern and clean. And to top it off, we were pleasantly surprised to see the old town when we opened our curtains.
Despite the light rain we decided to explore the old town a bit and grab something to eat for dinner. The old town was really nice. We walked around a bit then found a kebab shop where we had dinner. By the time we got to our hotel we were really tired.
