The weather on our arrival day was just right for cycling: cool, partly cloudy and dry. But, by next morning all hell broke loose. It started raining heavily. Now, keep in mind, both my brother and I have been in Germany before around this time of the year. So we kinda knew what the weather would be like and anticipated some rain especially in the mornings. We figured it would rain for a bit then stop, business as usual. However, by the second day's evening we realized that this was no ordinary rain. There was no end to this one.
By the third day, it became a waiting game. We would check the weather predictions through out the day hoping for a break. Although, my uncle and cousins were very welcoming and generous hosts to us, we were becoming very bored. We were stuck in the house all day long with not much to do. I think in order to better understand source of our extreme boredom you must know more about Elsenfeld.
Elsenfeld is a small town approximately 55km (35miles) south east of Frankfurt. It is surrounded by beautiful hills and valleys. Just as the rest of Germany, it has an extensive network of bicycle routes. It is a cyclist's dream. And, it also has...well, that is about it actually! So you can understand our frustration. Although, it was the perfect location for cycling, we couldn't do any of it. It was wet and bitterly cold outside.
